The Church of Saint James offers two options to assist parents in their responsibility of faith formation.
The traditional CCD program offers sacramental preparation and religious instruction for parish students in 1st through 8th Grade. Preparation for the sacraments is part of the regular class curriculum. Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is covered in 1st and 2nd grades; preparation for Confirmation is taught in 7th and 8th grades. Class attendance is mandatory during the two-year preparation cycle. All classes are held at Saint James School from September through May.
The Family Centered Catechesis Program is designed to engage the whole family in religious education and spiritual formation. As an approved alternative to weekly classes in the School of Religious Education (CCD), Family Centered Catechesis meets one Sunday each month during the academic year, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Children in Kindergarten through 8th Grade attend classes in Saint James School while parents congregate in the school gym for an adult learning session. By involving the entire family in catechesis, there is an opportunity for faith to be a continuing journey to deepen one’s relationship with God, at all stages in life. After catechesis, the whole family is encouraged to attend noon Mass.
The Family Centered Catechesis Program is nearly full. There is limited space available in some grades. Please email Shannon Civetta at firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about availability.
