Divine Office is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church to be recited at the canonical hours by the clergy, religious orders, and laity. Also known as the Liturgy of the Hours, the Divine Office consists primarily of psalms supplemented by hymns and readings. Together with the Mass, it constitutes the official public prayer life of the Church. The complete Office includes Midnight Matins, Lauds (dawn), Prime (6:00 a.m.), Terce (9:00 a.m.), Sext (Noon), None (3:00 p.m.), Vespers (at twilight), Complin (before retiring). At Saint James Church, the Lauds are prayed 15 minutes before the 7:00 a.m. and 8:00a.m. Masses, Monday through Saturday, during Advent and Lent. Prayer books are available for use in the chapel.
